Discussion: Gender and Transformative Justice

The Adayaalam Centre for Policy Research in collaboration with Vellamai hosted a discussion by Dr. Rebekkah Friedman on ‘Gender and Transformative Justice’.

Dr. Rebekkah Friedman is a lecturer of International Relations. Her research and teaching are at the intersection of reconciliation, transitional justice, collective memory, gender and peace-building. She has cross-regional expertise, having conducted extensive field research in rural and urban areas in Peru, Sierra Leone and Sri Lanka. Her book, Competing Memories: Truth and Reconciliation in Sierra Leone and Peru,  with Cambridge University Press is due to be published in 2017. She holds an MA and PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BA Joint Honours in Political Science and International Development from McGill University. She previously served as an editor of ‘Millennium: Journal of International Studies’. She has been awarded an ESRC Future Research Leaders grant to examine women’s experiences of marginalization and recovery in protracted social conflicts. She is also a co-investigator on an ESRC funded “Justice, Conflict and Development” network.
